Hoffmann Family of Companies is set to acquire the Katy Bike Rental building, equipment, and inventory in Defiance, MO. The bike shop is nestled right off of the Katy Trail, which stretches nearly 240 miles from Clinton to Machens, with many town stops along the way including Augusta, expanding their footprint in the MO wine region.

This acquisition is the first venture into Defiance, MO, for Hoffmann Family of Companies but not the first bike store in the area. Kickstand Augusta was launched in early July and the plans are to merge Katy Bike Rental and Kickstand Augusta. All current employees of Katy will continue to be employed, but the shop itself will soon see exciting upgrades and renovations.

The Defiance, MO bike rental company provides bike rentals, retail, repairs, and food for those traveling the Katy Trail as well as the local community. This expansion will offer the opportunity for patrons to rent a bike from either location and ride to the next or be picked up via shuttle and brought from town to town.

“The Kickstand Augusta provides repairs, online rentals, retail and snacks to those along the Katy Trail at the Augusta Trailhead.  We are looking forward to expanding our footprint into Defiance and more location along the Katy Trail in the upcoming future”.

– Ashley Hesjedal, Director of Specialty Retail for the Hoffmann Family of Companies

Bike renters will be able to ride a little over 7 miles between both rental shops one way or ride round-trip, welcoming more people to explore Augusta and providing access to the neighboring town, either by bike or shuttle.

Hoffmann Family of Companies’ vision is to revitalize the charm and history of Augusta and the surrounding Washington area, making it a destination rivaling the nation’s most prestigious wine regions. The now $125 million investment into making Augusta a national wine destination includes 4 wineries, 5 vineyards, 1,250 acres, a planned 40-60 room hotel, 12-hole championship golf course, luxury yacht, vineyard and winery tours, horse and carriage rides, classic car museum, and revitalization of over a dozen buildings in the downtown Augusta area.
